At the green hill slopes covered with olive trees, surrounding the city of Kyparissia, the extra virgin olive oil from “Kolokotronis olive groves” is produced. Here, on the west coast of Peloponnese, olive trees for thousands of years spread their roots among the ruins of buried ancient settlements, being part of the history of this place, breathing the invigorating breeze of the Ionian Sea which swirls around the columns of the Temple of Apollo Epicurius in Ancient Olympia, and transfers mysterious and endless energy to the fruit of the olive trees. And this energy is what is concentrated in the Greek olive oil and makes it unique worldwide.
The olive groves of Kolokotronis family are located on the hills that surround the city of Kyparissia in the Prefecture of Messinia in Peloponnese. A traditional “Koroneiki” crop variety (not Intensive farming) from 60-110 years old olive trees. We were suppliers of bulk olive oil for decades in the Greek market. During the last 7 years, we upgraded the production processes, using new technologies, equipment, scientific studies and through decades of experience, we produce packaged high quality olive oil which we supply to the Greek and International market. We continue our efforts through completely organic farming procedures for the production of olive oil equivalent to that produced by our ancestors at that time when pesticides and fertilizers were unknown words.
The olive trees from which we collect the Premium Quality are not watered nor sprayed with any kind of pesticides (not even with those permitted in organic farming) and only natural fertilization is applied (sterilized chicken and sheep manure, as well as Green Manure, sowing the fields with vetch). At the olive trees that produce the Zeolite olive oil, except the above procedures relating to the premium quality, the method of Kolokotronis Olive Groves is also applied. Namely, it is a mixture of biodynamic farming, improved by the use of Zeolite, active microorganisms and compost as a fertilizer, which is produced in the farm itself.
The fruit is harvested when it is unripe (premium quality) and those olives that have been collected are transferred on the same day to the most modern and certified oil press of the area, applying strictly cold method. Then, the green olive oil is stored in stainless steel tanks in order to “rest”, allowing the sediment to settle. Finally, follows the filtering and bottling in a HACCP certified bottling plant. As a result of the above crop management and production method is a high quality olive oil with intense fruit flavor and aroma but also a product of high nutritional value, because the green olive oil contains a higher concentration of olive oil antioxidants which have both a protective (cell anti-aging properties) and curative action in numerous diseases.
At Kolokotronis Olive Groves we treat the olive trees as a human being. We care for their healthy diet and the ideal conditions in their environment. We can not require form someone to be a champion when he is not nourished properly and exercises daily in an industrial zone. Key element to this direction is zeolite. It has uses in medicine and agriculture. Due to its crystal structure and its electrical load, it binds macromolecular compounds, heavy metals, radioactive particles from the ground, the foliage and the fruit of trees, through the same mechanism that acts in the human body exerting strong detoxifying action.
